LSU lost 27-20 to the USC Trojans in their season opener in Las Vegas on Sept. 1. However, the Tigers managed to come back in the second half and scored a kick to win the game against the Gamecocks in Columbia, South Carolina.
LaNorris Sellers and Dylan Stewart, first-time starters for South Carolina, helped the team get off to a fast start.
Due to an ankle injury, the seller who ran for two touchdowns had to exit the game right before halftime. The quarterback was sacked by Bradyn Swinson on the next-to-last play of the half and limped into the locker room.
For the final play, the former Auburn Tigers starting quarterback, Robby Ashford, stepped in.
The Tigers' quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier, threw a fourth-down interception at the goal line that appeared to jeopardize his team's prospects.
With less than four minutes remaining, LSU got a final chance and scored a touchdown thanks to a 29-yard catch by Kyren Lacy and a two-play sprint by Williams.
It seemed that South Carolina would secure an unforeseen victory in the game for much of its duration.
With only five seconds left on the clock, South Carolina drove to the LSU 39-yard line, hoping to tie the game. However, Gamecocks kicker Alex Herrera missed his long field goal attempt and LSU players celebrated on the sidelines.
The UCLA Bruins will visit LSU at home on Sept. 21, while the Gamecocks will host Akron in South Carolina next Saturday.
