Caitlin Clark's boyfriend is predicted to obtain a significant head coaching position - what relocation distance would he need to undertake?
At Iowa, where they were both students and basketball players, the couple first crossed paths.
As a rookie, Caitlin Clark has led a franchise turnaround for the Indiana Fever. Meanwhile, her boyfriend, Connor McCaffrey, aims to keep up.
In April 2023, while still students at the University of Iowa, Connor McCaffrey started dating Clark. A month later, he began his career as an assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers, just a month after graduation. Despite not knowing it at the time, McCaffrey landed that job over a year before Clark even knew she was going to be playing for the Indiana Fever.
The Fever, who had a poor record last season, won the top pick in the WNBA Draft lottery and selected Clark. As a result, the two have remained in the same city early in their professional careers.
After one year at his job, McCaffrey is predicted to receive his first head coaching position.
According to The Indianapolis Star, McCaffrey is reportedly set to replace Greg Oden as the head coach at Butler University in Indianapolis. His new work headquarters would be just seven miles from the Fever's arena, Gainbridge Field House.
If McCaffrey becomes the Butler head coach, he will continue his family legacy.
McCaffery played in 166 games across six collegiate seasons, ranking second in Iowa history. Despite dealing with injuries throughout most of his college career, a redshirt year and COVID-19 campaign allowed him to play for six seasons. In each of his full seasons except for his COVID season, he reached the NCAA tournament. McCaffery averaged 4.5 points and 3.0 rebounds, and played in 111 wins, tying Jordan Bohannon for the most in program history. His career assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.59 (527 assists to 147 turnovers) is the second best in NCAA history.
If he gets the job, he will have the opportunity to coach his brother, Jack, a freshman at Butler in the class of 2025.
As she prepares to lead the Fever on the team's first playoff run in eight years, he would still be in the same city as Clark.
On April 24, 2024, Connor shared on Instagram that the couple celebrated their first anniversary.
"One year has been the best doing life with you, and you never cease to amaze me. I can't wait to watch you live out your dreams in person. Love you," he wrote in the caption.
On Aug. 10, during the WNBA Olympics break, the couple went to New York City to watch a Yankees game. While there, only Clark was given a tour of the Yankees clubhouse and took photos with star players Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Juan Soto.
