Bart Scott, a former NFL player, shares his reasons for retiring from the league: "I started seeing spots and lights."
In 2006, Scott was named to the Pro Bowl, and he retired following the 2012 season.
Bart Scott spent 11 years in the NFL, representing the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets, before retiring after the 2012 season.
On ESPN's "Get Up," Scott discussed the real reason behind his retirement from the NFL, which was related to the concussion that Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered against the Buffalo Bills.
"People assume I retired due to my toe, but it was actually because of light sensitivity. I didn't share this with anyone until now, in this private setting," Scott stated, as reported by Awful Announcing.
"Unsure of my next move, I thought, "It's time to fold it up.""
Scott admitted that he's had some doubts about his decision to retire at that time.
Athletes face a dilemma when they retire: they wake up the next day and are unsure of what to do with the rest of their lives. Their identity has been defined by their sport, but it doesn't define who they are as individuals.
In 2002, Scott began his career with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent. During the 2006 season, he earned his only Pro Bowl selection with the Ravens.
In 172 career games, Scott accumulated 747 tackles and 25 sacks.
NFL figures called on Tagovailoa to retire after the latest concussion he suffered.
