Tua Tagovailoa retirement talk is being put on hold by Dolphins' Mike McDaniel.
Tagovailoa was urged by NFL figures to retire.
On Friday morning, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel declined to discuss retirement speculations regarding Tua Tagovailoa, who had suffered another frightening concussion.
NFL officials urged Tagovailoa to contemplate retirement following his exit from Thursday night's game against the Buffalo Bills in the third quarter due to a head injury resulting from a terrifying collision with Damar Hamlin.
McDaniel said, "I understand that his career is his, and it's not misplaced to wish for him to succeed. However, I believe it would be wrong of me to sniff that subject, and it's more important to focus on his well-being as a human being."
I understand why people want to go there, but I wish they would listen to me for a moment. Bringing up his future is not in his best interest, so I urge everyone who genuinely cares to consider this. If I were to answer that question, I would say, "This is my opinion on his career," and he would read it. Whether he agreed or disagreed, I would have made him worse.
"I am not seizing this chance because I believe it is inappropriate due to my concern and respect, and I believe that discussions about someone's career should be left to the individual."
In the game against the Bills at home in 2022, Tagovailoa appeared to sustain a concussion, but it was later determined that he had been dealing with a back injury, which caused him to stumble after hitting his head on the ground during a play.
In Week 4 against the Bengals, Tagovailoa was thrown to the ground on the Paycor Stadium turf in Cincinnati, and a concerning incident occurred as his fingers curled, which is often seen with head injuries.
In the final game of the season, he sustained a concussion against the Green Bay Packers, resulting in him being unable to play for the remainder of the season.
