After a costly defeat to Memphis, a fire alarm sounded during Florida State's postgame.
Since being excluded from the 2023 College Football Playoff, Florida State has not won a game.
Florida State's recovery from last season's playoff snub and historic Orange Bowl loss to Georgia is not going well.
Despite finishing the previous season undefeated and in playoff contention, Florida State is currently struggling with an 0-3 record following a 20-12 loss to FBS Memphis on Saturday. The Seminoles paid Memphis $1.3 million to be on their schedule this year, but they still lost the game.
After a fire alarm sounded at the team facility, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell had to abruptly end his postgame press conference.
The fire alarm saved the head coach from having to elaborate on the exhausting specifics of his team's devastating defeat.
"Norvell emphasized the need for improvement in his postgame press conference, stating that "we all have to prepare better" and "we can't continue to come into games and see things that are absolutely not a part of who we are show up." He commended the team for their hard work, stating that "these guys have not stopped working.""
Since being excluded from the College Football Playoffs the previous year, Florida State has suffered four consecutive defeats, leaving them without a win.
Florida State began the season with a 24-21 loss to Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland, a week before the rest of the College Football schedule began. Their struggles continued on September 2nd as they fell to 0-2 with a 28-13 loss to Boston College.
"I'm disappointed that the season has started this way," Norvell said after the Boston College loss. "We were not able to execute in all phases, and I didn't put them in a position to showcase what I believe this football team is capable of. I apologize to our fans and everyone associated with the program for the extremely disappointing outcome."
The Seminoles' first two losses were against opponents that were more deserving of victory.
The team's 6.5-point favorite status made Saturday's loss more unexpected, as it came after a bye week.
The Seminoles won't have any more opponents they paid to be on the schedule soon.
Their upcoming three games will all be against ACC rivals, starting with next Saturday's game against Cal, followed by a trip to new conference foe SMU, both of whom are newcomers to the conference. The following game will see Florida State face its longtime conference rival Clemson, who is looking to overcome its own struggles to start the season after a blowout loss to Georgia in Week 1.
