Heisman Trophy vote: 'Something unprecedented'
Coach Prime's response was not unexpected.
The Heisman Trophy case is intense, but the solution is straightforward for Deion Sanders.
The Colorado coach may have a slight bias, but he is currently favoring Travis Hunter as the odds-on favorite.
Sanders, a Colorado football coach, said on "Big Noon Kickoff" that he believes Travis is the best college football player.
"Sheudeur Sanders, Deion's son, is the catalyst, making everything go, but Travis Hunter is doing something we've never seen before."
Hunter is a standout player on both sides of the ball, just like Shohei Ohtani in baseball.
This season, he has 60 receptions for 757 yards and eight touchdowns through eight games, surpassing his totals from last year despite missing three games due to a lacerated spleen. Many scouts project him to be a cornerback in the NFL.
His seven pass breakups are the most in the Big 12, and he has two interceptions and 21 total tackles, with 14 of them being solo.
It's unsurprising that mock drafts predict him to be picked early in the first round, even within the top five, given his impressive offensive and defensive abilities.
Dillon Gabriel, Cam Ward, and Ashton Jeanty are among the other guys in the running for the award.
Gabriel leads the No. 1-ranked team in the country, Ward leads all of FBS with 29 passing touchdowns, and Jeanty is on track to break Barry Sanders' all-time single-season rushing record in college football.
It's a race to the finish, but it's difficult to criticize Sanders for supporting his man.
