Officials announced on Tuesday that Marco Angulo, a promising Ecuadorian soccer player who represented FC Cincinnati in Major League Soccer, had passed away due to injuries sustained in a car accident. At the time of his death, he was just 22 years old.

Last month, on a highway near Quito, a vehicle carrying Angulo and his former youth soccer teammate Roberto Cabezas crashed into a metal barrier, resulting in the death of the driver, Cabezas, and Angulo.

FC Cincinnati expressed deep sadness over the loss of Marco, who was a husband, father, brother, son, friend, and teammate, in a statement on Tuesday.

"The young man was full of joy and kindness, bringing light to every space he entered. Our club mourns the loss of this tragedy and sends our thoughts and prayers to his family. He was a beloved member of the FC Cincinnati family, and his absence will be deeply felt."
