According to an ex-NFL star, Aaron Rodgers "completely sucked the air out of the building."
Despite settling into his first healthy season with the Jets, Rodgers' performance has not gone as planned. He has 2,258 passing yards and 15 touchdown passes, but New York is 3-7 and ranked 26th in scoring and yards gained.
On Monday, following the Jets' 31-6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Boomer Esiason, a former Jets and Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback, was blunt in his assessment.
"Few individuals throw the ball like him. I used to assert that Dan Marino, Joe Namath, and Aaron Rodgers all threw the ball differently than anyone else, with a unique style that we had never seen before. I will always believe that these three players were exceptional when they were throwing the ball, and their natural and awe-inspiring technique will remain etched in my memory forever."
Esiason pointed to the situation with Mike Williams.
The Jets traded for Davante Adams and sent Williams to the Pittsburgh Steelers due to the veteran wide receiver and Rodgers not connecting on the field.
On Sunday, the Steelers won over the Washington Commanders thanks to Williams' go-ahead touchdown grab.
Over the past two years, every player on this team has deferred everything to Russell Wilson, according to Esiason. This is because Wilson mentioned Mike Williams yesterday, who showed up to Pittsburgh with a big smile and was unencumbered by playing for the Jets and Aaron Rodgers. As a result, Williams made a game-winning touchdown catch over his left shoulder in an incredible sequence of events.
"The reason Russell Wilson threw Mike Williams the game-winning touchdown pass was because the previous play resulted in an injury to the player who would have been on the field. This is the only reason Mike is out there. Russell has the confidence to throw him the ball, and Mike's comments provide insight into the locker room dynamics of the Jets."
As the season progresses, Jets fans cling to the excitement surrounding the team, but a miracle is required for New York to make the playoffs.
