Report: NFL delayed Nick Bosa MAGA hat fine until after election
Nearly two weeks after the incident, Bosa was reportedly fined $11,255.
A report from The Wall Street Journal stated that the assessment of San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa's decision to wear a "Make America Great Again" hat during a postgame television interview was purposely delayed until after the election, in order to generate anticipation.
Last month, Bosa, 27, gained attention after interrupting Brock Purdy's postgame interview on NBC following the 49ers' victory over the Dallas Cowboys on October 27th.
Bosa's wearing of a pro-Donald Trump hat on the field violated an NFL rule that prohibits players from displaying personal messages.
Despite a clear violation of the rule, Bosa was not fined until nearly two weeks later, according to a report that suggests the discipline was intentional.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the league intentionally delayed fining Bosa until after the election to avoid any potential backlash that may have occurred in the days leading up to the election, as reported by The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.
Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment from the NFL was not immediately responded to.
Before the official word came out, Bosa did not express any regret over the incident.
"Well worth it," he said at the time. "I don't think my stance on discussing it will change, so clearly the nation spoke. We received what we received."
Despite the fine, Bosa paid homage to the president-elect again this weekend by performing Trump-inspired dance moves after Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was sacked in the fourth quarter.
