Ricky Pearsall is praised by Brock Purdy as the "toughest guy I know" after a touchdown.
On Sunday, during the 49ers' 23-20 victory, Pearsall achieved his first NFL touchdown.
Rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall has earned high praise from San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
"I know someone who is incredibly tough, and it's hard to believe he got shot in the chest and then scored an NFL touchdown a few months later," Purdy said via KNBR.
"It was an impressive feat for a rookie and a human to score a touchdown and break through a tackle like that. He has inspired all of us."
In the 49ers' 23-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pearsall, 24, got his first NFL touchdown.
In the first quarter, the 49ers took a 7-0 lead over the opposing team when Purdy hit Pearsall in stride over the middle of the field, and the rookie wide receiver outran safety Antoine Winfield Jr. for the score.
Pearsall had his best game of his young career, finishing the day with six catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Pearsall was shot in the chest in a failed robbery attempt, but the bullet miraculously missed his vital organs and he scored more than two months later.
Pearsall, after regaining his football form, made his NFL debut on Oct. 20 against the Kansas City Chiefs, recording five catches for 21 yards in the 49ers' 28-18 loss.
With Brandon Aiyuk's ACL and MCL injuries, Pearsall will become a more crucial member of the offense.
The 49ers will be relying more on both Pearsall and star running back Christian McCaffery after the latter made his season debut against the Buccaneers following a bout with bilateral Achilles tendonitis.
On Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET, the 49ers, currently 5-4, will face a crucial inter-division matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
