Shane Waldron is fired as offensive woes continue: 'It is in the best interest of our team'
After being fired following 9 games, Waldron is no longer part of the team.
The Chicago Bears have released offensive coordinator Shane Waldron in an attempt to revitalize one of the NFL's poorest offenses during a downward trend.
In January, Waldron was hired to replace Getsy, who was fired in November 2023 after two seasons with the team. However, Waldron was let go on Tuesday after only nine games with the Bears.
"After carefully assessing our entire operation, I have decided that it is in the best interest of our team to change direction with our offense leadership. This decision was made with careful consideration and respect," head coach Matt Eberflus stated in a statement announcing the change.
"Shane, I want to express my gratitude for his hard work and wish him continued success in the future."
Offensive passing game coordinator Thomas Brown will take over, Eberflus added.
"I eagerly anticipate Thomas's leadership over our offensive coaching staff and his strategy for our players, as he is a brilliant offensive thinker with a collaborative approach to calling plays."
The three-game slide culminated in Waldron's firing, with the most recent game being a 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Since scoring a touchdown in the final minute at Washington in Week 8, the Bears (4-5) have gone back-to-back games without a touchdown and rank 30th in the NFL in total offense and 24th in scoring.
