Young collector pulls coveted rookie card of Pirates star Paul Skenes after MLB team makes an offer.
Last season, the National League Rookie of the Year was Skenes.
The unique autographed MLB debut patch card of Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes is no longer available for purchase.
An 11-year-old collector from Southern California decided to pull the card from the 2024 Topps Chrome Update set.
The trading card and collectible manufacturer unveiled the card of Skenes, who was named the 2024 National Leage Rookie of the Year, in November, drawing significant interest.
The Pirates began to publicly advocate for the card after it was made public knowledge.
The MLB debut patch edition, autographed by Skenes, is a highly sought one-of-a-kind collectible.
The Pirates presented a comprehensive bundle of incentives in exchange for the card, including a trio of premium season tickets, a meeting with Skenes, and signed jerseys.
Although the recent developments have changed, the Pirates still stand prepared to fulfill the agreement.
On Tuesday, the Pirates posted on X that an 11-year-old collector pulled the Paul Skenes 1/1 Debut Patch card. Their offer still stands, and you can find them where you know they are.
Livvy Dunne, an LSU gymnast who is dating Skenes, added another motivation for whoever finds the card.
"Whoever discovers this card will have the opportunity to join me at a Pirates game in my suite," Dunne stated in her Instagram story post.
In 2024, Skenes, 22, had a standout season, finishing with a 11-3 record and a 1.96 ERA, while striking out 170 batters.
Skenes was named to the MLB All-Star team before winning NL Rookie of the Year.
Since 2023, rookies have worn MLB debut patches on their jerseys. Topps acquired the patches and created unique cards.
In November, Sports Collectors Digest predicted that the card would fetch a six-figure price.
