In UConn's overtime win, Dan Hurley made a memorable remark to the referee: "Did I say that?"
Butler was defeated by UConn 80-78 in overtime.
On Tuesday night, broadcast cameras captured UConn men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley’s latest sideline antics with officials during the Huskies’ overtime win against Butler at the XL Center in Hartford, marking their 15th-straight victory.
In the latter part of the first half, with UConn leading by 10, Hurley confronted a referee regarding a foul that he believed should have been called on a defensive rebound effort.
As Hurley was making his argument, the official turned away from the coach. It was then that the broadcast captured Hurley's memorable one-liner.
"I'm the best coach in the sport, so don't turn your back on me."
In his postgame presser, Hurley admitted to making the remark and stated that he was looking for more "dialogue" with the officials.
""I want some level of communication too," Hurley replied with a smirk."
Hurley defended himself by stating that his interaction with officials is common, but his camera time is unique.
I wish the camera was on the other coach more," he said. "I wish they showed the other coaches losing their minds at officials in Big East games where I coach, where I look into a timeout and don't talk to officials. I see other coaches being demonstrative like me.
"I created the camera for myself, not as a victim. While I appreciate the camera's presence, I wish it was not on me 90% of the time. However, if it helps drive ratings and attract more a--holes on Twitter who can clip me from a game and say, "Look how big a monster he is. He's yelling at a ref again. What a monster," then I'm all for it."
Despite losing to Creighton on Saturday, UConn bounced back on Tuesday with Solo Ball's career-high 23-point performance in an 80-78 overtime win over Butler.
