Aaron Glenn's hiring as a Jets legend is met with approval from Joe Namath and other Jets legends.
The Jets selected Glenn 12th overall in 1994, and he played 8 seasons with the team.
Aaron Glenn, the former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator, is reportedly joining the New York Jets as their next head coach, a team he played for during his NFL career.
Many Jets legends, including "Broadway Joe," enjoy seeing that move.
"I hope all Jets fans are as excited as my family and I are about Aaron Glenn being our new Head Coach, as posted by Joe Namath on X," Namath wrote. "I wish the season would begin next week."
Judy Battista of NFL.com reported that Bill Parcells, who coached Glenn as a player with the Jets and Cowboys, was excited to see him succeed as a head coach.
"Battista was told by Parcells that he is not afraid to be confrontational, but rather he is just assertive. He is not rude or impolite, but rather he is willing to express his opinions."
DJ Reed, a free agent this offseason after spending the past three seasons with the Jets, also posted on X.
"Glenn is a great look!" he wrote.
Another coordinator under Dan Campbell has left Detroit to become a head coach elsewhere, while offensive coordinator Ben Johnson landed with the Chicago Bears, a rival of the Lions in the NFC North.
On Tuesday, Glenn's return to the Jets intensified as he met with team management. Initially, it was believed that the team wouldn't allow him to leave the building, along with GM candidate Lance Newark of the Washington Commanders, in order to secure their preferred candidates.
Despite not happening, the rumor that Glenn desired the Jets job circulated on social media and was confirmed on Wednesday.
In the Jets' thorough search for a coach, Glenn emerged victorious over more than a dozen other candidates, including Brian Flores, Jeff Hafley, Ron Rivera, and Rex Ryan.
In the 1994 NFL Draft, the Jets selected Glenn, a three-time Pro Bowler, as the 12th overall pick. After spending eight seasons with the franchise, he was acquired by the Houston Texans in the 2002 expansion draft.
The Jets, who have not made it to the playoffs since 2010, are in dire need of a new leader to guide them back to the postseason.
The question for Glenn and the new GM is whether they want Aaron Rodgers to return to the Green Bay Packers in 2025, and ultimately, it is up to Rodgers to decide if he wants to play his 21st season in the league.
Valued members of the franchise are giving Glenn signs of approval, which is a positive development.
