Philadelphia's Democratic mayor addresses criticism for misspelling "Eagles" during a speech.
In her first term as the city's mayor, Parker is leading the way.
On Sunday, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker addressed the criticism she faced after misspelling the name of her hometown Eagles during a speech.
The Democratic mayor tried to join the team's fans in their signature chant during a playoff celebration, but she misspelled the team name as "E-L-G-S-E-S."
Parker addressed this mistake during a press conference on Tuesday.
"Parker stated to reporters, "We do not guarantee perfection, and I am thrilled that I never have to worry about it since I can't even spell Eagles correctly.""
Reporters in attendance laughed in response.
Philly Goat, an independent sports apparel business in Philadelphia, has already transformed the Democrat's misspelling into a T-shirt.
In 2023, Parker became the city's first female mayor after winning the mayoral election and defeating Republican Joe Rockey.
From 2005-15, Parker represented Pennsylvania in the House of Representatives, and later served on the Philadelphia city council from 2015-22.
On Sunday in Philadelphia, the Eagles will battle the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game for a spot in the Super Bowl.
