Tyson Fury announces retirement after losses to Oleksandr Usyk.
In his career, he had a record of 34 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw.
Tyson Fury announced his retirement from boxing on Monday after losing to Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch last month.
In a video posted to Instagram, 36-year-old Fury announced the news.
""I'm retiring from boxing, and I'm going to end it with a little twist: Dick Turpin wore a mask. Thank you all, see you on the other side," Fury announced."
Fury's mention of Turpin was unclear, as he was an 18th century highway robber and horse thief in England.
Fury lost multiple heavyweight championships in his initial loss to Usyk, who defeated him via split decision on May 18 and then via unanimous decision on Dec. 21 in Saudi Arabia.
Fury’s last win came against Francis Ngannou via split decision.
If this is truly it for Fury, he will retire with a 34-2-1 record, with 24 knockouts. The only two blemishes on his record were losses to Usyk, and there was a draw against Deontay Wilder in 2018.
He announced his retirement before his 34th birthday in August 2022 but returned to the ring two months later.
Frank Warren, a boxing promoter who worked with Fury, stated to BBC that he did not have any conversation with Fury prior to his retirement.
"Warren stated on BBC radio that if that's what he wants to do, it's great. He has done everything he can do. He is likely the best British heavyweight of his generation. He is a two-time world champion, has fought Usyk in two closely contested matches, has plenty of money, is intelligent, and has a wonderful family."
Unfortunately, it seems that a fight between Fury and Joshua, two of Britain's top fighters of this generation, will not occur at this time.
