Travis Kelce refutes accusations that the Chiefs intentionally lost to the Bengals: "I ain't afraid of anyone"
The Chiefs were defeated by the Broncos 38-0.
Travis Kelce clarifies that the Kansas City Chiefs did not intentionally lose to the Denver Broncos to prevent the Cincinnati Bengals from making the playoffs.
To make the playoffs after beating the Steelers on Saturday, the Bengals required the Dolphins and Broncos to lose.
The Chiefs were eliminated from the playoffs as the Broncos won 38-0, while the Jets beat the Dolphins.
The Chiefs sat out several starters, including Mahomes and Kelce, as they had already secured the AFC's top seed.
During a recent episode of "New Heights," Jason Kelce informed Travis that there were rumors circulating that the Chiefs intentionally lost to the Broncos in order to prevent the Bengals from making it to the playoffs.
The Chiefs star tight end vehemently denied that the team lost on purpose.
Travis stated, "I am not afraid of anyone. I wanted the Bengals in the playoffs. I want to defeat every dragon one by one, just like in Mortal Kombat. I don't want this to be a low-seed game. Just give me the best teams."
"Give me all AFC and NFC teams, Mortal Kombat style. I'll go through every one of them with my best effort. I ain't scared of anyone."
Jason encouraged his brother to continue, stating that rumors circulated that the Chiefs were not interested in playing in "Burrowhead," the nickname given to the Chiefs' home-field, GEHA field at Arrowhead Stadium, by Bengals fans.
"Travis replied, "I'll play them at the Walmart parking lot. I don't care, we can have our own game in the offseason where we really compete again." He added, "Listen, I love competing against the best. The Bengals were a fun team to watch towards the end of the season, and it's a shame they didn't make it to the playoffs because it would have made the playoffs even more exciting and unpredictable.""
The Bengals fired defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo after missing the playoffs, a decision that Travis did not comprehend.
Kelce stated, "I am unsure what is happening over there. The move I made was unexpected because I believed their defense was performing well towards the end of the year."
"I have always highly respected him and many players on that side of the ball due to their exceptional performance this year."
Kelce stated that he believed the Bengals were "ten times better than their record indicated," and he emphasized that the Chiefs did not lose to Denver due to poor play.
We didn't throw any game, alright. The guys were out there competing their a-- off, trying to get a win. Unfortunately, we couldn't put drives together. We couldn't stop Denver, and it just wasn't a fun game to be part of. I'm sitting here on the sidelines, saying, 'Hey boys, don't let this ruin our mojo.' When we got everybody rolling and it's go time, we need to flip that switch and know we're the biggest, baddest team out there.
The Chiefs will watch the opening round of the playoffs at home as they earned a first-round bye, while the Broncos will travel to face the No. 2-seeded Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round.
The Bengals are currently seeking a new defensive coordinator and have major concerns about their star wide receivers. Tee Higgins is set to become a free agent, while Ja’Marr Chase is due for a significant contract extension.
