TJ Oshie of the Capitals speaks out about his love for his country after facing criticism for a post on social media.

"I will fight for you every day with all my strength until we achieve a prosperous and safe America for our children," Trump's message on the graphic stated. "This will be the golden age of America."

"Oshie wrote on X, "That escalated quickly!" He clarified, "To be clear, I love America and Americans on both sides of the aisle and always will. Even you in the negative comments, you little stinkers. I choose to respect everyone until you prove me otherwise. If it makes you feel better to chirp me over the internet, it's cool. Although I don't see the honor in it and it seems silly.""

Some commentators expressed concern about Oshie's daughters in relation to Trump's presidency, prompting Oshie to respond.

Some commenters expressed their intention to discard Oshie's jerseys.

"P.S. If you're discarding jerseys, consider removing the name and number. Keep in mind that the front name is more significant than the back number. I love you all today and always! God bless America."

In the past nine seasons, Oshie has played in the NHL in Washington D.C., where he currently serves as an alternate captain.

In the 2005 NHL Draft, the St. Louis Blues selected him as the 24th overall pick.

The 38-year-old was a Team USA legend, with historic moments such as his four-goal shootout against Russia during the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. Despite the U.S. finishing in fourth place, Oshie spent years representing the Stars and Stripes with three men's national teams in 2009, 2010, and 2013, as well as the national junior squad in 2006.
