Tiger Woods speaks out amid ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area: 'Stay strong, LA!'
A native of California is Tiger Woods.
Tiger Woods, a golf icon and Southern California native, is speaking out about the wildfires that are causing destruction in the Los Angeles region.
The Pacific Palisades fire, one of the largest and most destructive wildfires in the area, is located in Cypress, California, where Woods was born.
Until Tuesday, Woods had remained silent about the tragedy. However, he released a statement expressing his sympathy for those affected by the devastating wildfires.
"The ongoing devastation of the LA fires is a tragedy, and as a Californian, it hits home. Woods shared this sentiment in a statement on his social media platforms. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the first responders who are working tirelessly to contain and save the community of Los Angeles."
The major winner, who has won 15 times, pledged to reveal more information about his personal contributions to the communities affected by the disasters.
"In the upcoming weeks, we will share information about our charitable initiatives to support these communities. Keep up the resilience, LA!"
The Palisades and Eaton fires, which were ignited last week, are still being worked on by firefighters and first responders to fully contain them.
On Tuesday, the death toll from the Palisades and Eaton fires rose to 25, with officials confirming at least eight deaths and an estimated 35 people still missing.
An elevated fire threat is expected in the region on Wednesday due to strong winds, forecasters said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department Chief, Kristin Crowley, stated on Tuesday that the region is experiencing "destructive and widespread winds" that could exacerbate or start new wildfires in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
"The NWS Los Angeles issued a PDS Red Flag Warning for extreme fire weather scenarios, indicating that the situation is as bad as it gets. It is crucial to remain aware of surroundings, prepare to evacuate, and avoid anything that can spark a fire. #cawx."
