The Titans, holding the No. 1 draft pick, dismiss general manager Ran Carthon.
In 2024, the Titans had a record of 14 losses and 3 wins.
The Tennessee Titans will not have general manager Ran Carthon make the No. 1 overall pick selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, as they lost in Week 18.
On Tuesday, the team announced that they have ended their partnership with Carthon after two seasons.
Over the past two years, the Titans had a record of 9-25 with Carthon as their coach.
On Tuesday morning, Amy Adams Strunk, the owner of the Titans team, informed Carthon of a change.
Strunk stated that he has enjoyed spending time with Ran, who is a talented football mind and a great person. However, he is disappointed in the team's poor win-loss record over the past two years, which he believes is a reflection of their long-term future if they continue down the same path.
"Our team is not up to your expectations, but we are grateful for your support as we strive to improve."
Although Carthon was let go, Callahan will be back as head coach next season.
The search for a new general manager will be led by Chad Brinker, the President of Football Operations.
In the Titans statement, Brinker listed what he will be looking for.
Brinker stated that the general manager position is distinctive to each organization. The ideal candidate for this job would be someone who has spent their career as a scout, is a highly skilled evaluator, and has a proven track record of projecting college players to the National Football League. They should have played a significant role in setting the draft board in a successful organization and their influence can be seen throughout the roster.
The ideal candidate is someone who wakes up every day with the sole focus on building a roster, evaluating players, and working with the coaching staff. They must not only possess the ability to collect talent but also understand how to build a team and how all the pieces fit together. This individual must be able to make decisions that impact the future and understand the full puzzle.
"This individual will be fully committed to the roster and coaching staff, while I will handle the other areas surrounding the center of our program, including scouting and coaches. However, we are seeking a general manager who prioritizes building the team each day."
The new general manager will have the top pick in the draft and approximately $61 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap.
What is the new general manager's plan for the quarterback position, given that second-year quarterback Will Levis struggled this season?
