The team intends to place Dak Prescott on injured reserve, further hindering their season as it continues to decline.
The Eagles face the Cowboys, who are 3-5, on Sunday.
A bad season for the Dallas Cowboys is getting worse.
On Friday, Stephen Jones, the team executive, announced that the team intends to put quarterback Dak Prescott on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury he sustained on Sunday.
Jones stated on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas that currently, no one knows if it will be four weeks, six weeks, or the entire season, and they must continue to monitor the situation to see where it leads.
Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys, stated that they were hoping to avoid Prescott undergoing season-ending surgery, but the injury seems severe enough for him to miss at least four games.
Prescott suffered a partial hamstring tear while playing football. He grimaced in pain after throwing a pass to Jalen Brooks. After the game, he described his experience.
"Prescott stated that he felt something when he was getting up from the run, but he couldn't say for sure what it was. He believed it might have been something related to the tackle. However, when he was standing up, he felt something more clearly, although he didn't think it was significant. He explained that it's common to feel different things during a physical game, and they often fade away."
In 2022, Prescott underwent surgery on both his ankle and thumb.
In Week 10, Trey Lance, the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is expected to start, while Cooper Rush finished the game with 115 passing yards and a touchdown against the Falcons.
Hours before the Cowboys' season opener against the Browns, it was announced that Prescott had agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract extension.
In 2023, he became the highest-paid player in NFL history after throwing for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns. However, this season, he has appeared to regress.
In 2024, Prescott has thrown for 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions in eight games, while the Cowboys have faced significant injuries, including Micah Parsons missing four games. Additionally, the absence of a running game has put more pressure on Prescott this season.
Despite going 12-5 for the third straight season and being the No. 2 seed in the NFC, the Cowboys were upset at home by the Green Bay Packers last year.
Despite winning two consecutive games against the Giants and Steelers, the Cowboys have lost three games in a row, leaving them at 3-5. Their schedule becomes even more challenging as they host the Philadelphia Eagles in an NFC East game at home.
