The Rose Bowl half-marathon and 5K have been postponed because of wildfires.
In the area, three professional sporting events have been postponed.
The Rose Bowl half-marathon and 5K, originally scheduled for January 19, have been postponed due to the wildfires in Southern California.
The fourth sporting event in the area to be rescheduled due to fires is the Vikings-Rams playoff game, which has been moved to Arizona.
The McCourt Foundation, which sponsors the race, stated that their thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the ongoing fires in and around Pasadena and the greater Los Angeles area. Additionally, the foundation emphasized that the well-being of their participants, volunteers, and community is always their top priority when making decisions.
Our community holds deep respect for emergency personnel and first responders who are working tirelessly to protect us. We understand that the postponement may be disappointing to some, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these unforeseen and difficult circumstances.
"We are currently collaborating with our partners at the Rose Bowl to reschedule the Rose Bowl Half Marathon & 5K, and we will update participants and the community via email, our website, and social media as soon as a new date is determined."
Since 2019, the race has been held in the Pasadena area, where runners race before finishing on the field near the legendary stadium.
At least 10 lives have been claimed, over 10,000 buildings have been destroyed, and roughly 30,000 acres have burned in the fires.
Numerous celebrities, including Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick, have been displaced from their homes.
