Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland has been cross-checked in the head by Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid, resulting in a three-game suspension for McDavid.

In the 3-2 win over the Oilers on Saturday, McDavid and Garland were involved in a scrum.

McDavid was ejected from the game with a match penalty after intentionally injuring Garland with his stick.

On Monday, McDavid attended a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety and subsequently received a suspension.

In the same scrum between McDavid and Garland, Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers was also given a three-game suspension.

Evan Bouchard was crosschecked in the face by Myers during the post-whistle altercation.

In his 10-year career, McDavid has been suspended twice, with the most recent suspension being for two games in 2019 due to an illegal check to the head.

Over the next three games, McDavid will lose $195,312 in salary due to a suspension, in addition to the $5,000 fine he received for elbowing a player in 2021.

McDavid will not be available for the Oilers' games against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday, the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, and the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

The Oilers will have McDavid back in the lineup when they face the Seattle Kraken next Monday.

This season, McDavid has been sensational, just like he has been throughout his career. With 65 points (20 goals, 45 assists) across 43 games, he has once again proven himself as a three-time Hart Trophy winner.

The Oilers are 29-14-3 and are in second place in the Pacific Division, one point behind the Vegas Golden Knights.
