The Commanders' NFC Championship drought has ended, leaving the cowboys with the longest drought in the league.
Since the 1995 season, the NFC has not seen any cowboys in its title games.
On Saturday, NFL fans were focused on the Dallas Cowboys, despite their failure to make the playoffs and the team's decision to part ways with head coach Mike McCarthy, as they began their offseason.
The Washington Commanders' victory over the Detroit Lions signaled the conclusion of their prolonged NFC Championship dry spell. The team will now compete for a shot at the Super Bowl, which they have not achieved since the 1991 season. In the years following that game, Washington has only managed to make the playoffs seven times.
Since the 1995 season, the Cowboys have not been to the NFC Championship game.
The Cowboys have made 18 playoff appearances but have not won in the divisional round since then.
Tom Brady and the New England Patriots won six Super Bowl titles, with the quarterback adding one more with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The New York Jets got to back-to-back AFC title games but have not been to the postseason since 2010. The New York Giants won two Super Bowls, the Philadelphia Eagles won a Super Bowl, and Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has as many playoff victories as Dak Prescott.
The Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins have longer conference title game droughts.
The Browns and Dolphins have not appeared in the AFC Championship since the 1989 and 1992 seasons, respectively, when they lost to the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills.
The offseason for Dallas requires significant corrections, beginning with the appointment of a new head coach.
