On Monday, ESPN announced that it would broadcast a message from President Trump during the halftime of the college football national championship game between Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Trump was unable to attend the game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta because he was celebrating his return to the White House and attending inauguration balls.

Trump declared, "Greetings, fellow Americans. Today marks a historic and thrilling moment for our nation. Despite the hardships faced by our people in recent years, we are now determined to restore America to its former glory and ensure its continued prosperity and pride."

Our nation will be known for its compassion, strength, and exceptionalism. We will use our power and might to end wars and bring peace to the world. We will regain respect and be admitted once again, admired like never before. By putting America first, we will make America great again.

In just three months since the election, the excitement, confidence, and spirit have returned to our nation. We are determined to lead our country to even greater heights. The golden age of America is now upon us.

"I understand that the journey has been challenging for both players and fans. Despite the long season, we have two exceptional teams. Let's enjoy the game and fight with integrity, allowing the better team to emerge victorious. Thank you, and have a good night."

ESPN caught social media flak for deciding to air the message.
