The Chiefs are routed by the Broncos, who secure the final AFC playoff spot with Bo Nix throwing 4 touchdown passes.
On their home field, Nix & Co seized the opportunity with the Chiefs starters taking a break.
On Sunday, the Denver Broncos were confident they could secure their playoff spot since the Kansas City Chiefs were resting their starters, and they were playing at home.
Bo Nix secured the win for the Broncos with four touchdowns in a 38-0 rout of the Chiefs, earning the AFC's No. 7 seed. As a result, the Broncos are the last team in the NFL to earn a spot in the playoffs.
Nix was going to work immediately against a Chiefs defense with key players on the bench when Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and others watched from the sidelines for almost a month as the AFC's No. 1 seed.
In six plays, the Broncos went 70 yards, with Marvin Mims Jr. scoring the first touchdown on a screen play for 32 yards, making it 7-0.
Nix scored three touchdowns in a row, with the third touchdown coming on the 18th play of the drive. He found Courtland Sutton from 10 yards out and then led an 11-minute drive that was capped by Devaughn Vele somehow snagging a tipped pass for a three-yard score.
Despite Carson Wentz starting in place of Mahomes, the Chiefs struggled against the stingy Broncos defense, resulting in two three-and-outs to begin the game. Later, the Chiefs gained some ground but missed a field goal from 51 yards out when Harrison Butker went wide left.
In the second half, the Chiefs were unable to score any points, as they went through a series of punts, turnovers, and turnovers-on-downs.
Meanwhile, Nix continued to score points with another Mims touchdown, this time from seven yards away.
The Broncos clinched a playoff spot after Audric Estime ran in from one yard out, sending the Mile High crowd into a frenzy.
Nix had an impressive performance in the box score, scoring 26 out of 29 and throwing four touchdown passes for 321 yards. His top target was someone with a Week 18 incentive.
Sutton earned a $2 million incentive by finishing with 98 receiving yards on five receptions, including a 47-yard bomb from Nix as his first reception of the game.
Nix also led the Broncos in rushing with 47 yards on seven carries.
