In the offseason, Harrison Butker, the kicker of the Kansas City Chiefs, faced criticism for his faith-based commencement speech at Benedictine College.

Butker encouraged female graduates to become homemakers and condemned the LGBTQ community and President Biden for his stance on abortion. He also stated that issues such as abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, and the promotion of degenerate cultural values and media are all a result of the prevalence of disorder.

In an interview on OutKick's "Don't @ Me with Dan Dakich," Tony Dungy clarified that critics had misinterpreted his statement.

Dungy stated that he believed the statement was taken out of context, and if one listened to what he was saying, there was nothing to be offended by. He added that while many of these women would have successful careers, some might find their most significant purpose in life as parents, which he considered acceptable.

"I have accomplished a lot and received numerous accolades, but the most significant thing in my life has been parenting. Therefore, I don't believe there was anything wrong with stating that. It's possible that they didn't like the way he said it, and it was directed towards a cross-cultural audience. I understand that. He was speaking to a limited audience in a limited context, and I believe it was taken out of context."

Dungy comprehended some criticism due to his religious beliefs and how he discusses the Bible.

There isn't always a single correct way to express a belief for many individuals. As a Christian, I often face criticism, and when I express my values and beliefs based on the Bible, those who don't share my faith may become upset.

"I believe that my communication style and beliefs align with Harrison's, and I stand firm on them. However, some people may find offense to discussing biblical principles in certain contexts, such as sports or politics. They may urge us to keep our religious beliefs private. Unfortunately, I am not willing to comply with that request. As a result, my stance may be perceived as unlikable at times."
