Stephen Curry and the "new era of humans" are being blamed by Shaq for making the NBA "boring" and contributing to a decline in viewership.
Out-of-control 3-point shooting, says Shaq.
Stephen Curry's 3-point shooting revolutionized basketball, but one NBA legend believes it has had a negative impact.
Early in the 2024-25 season, the NBA has experienced a decrease in viewership, and Shaquille O'Neal believes it's due to the prevalence of a specific playing style that emphasizes 3-point shooting.
Shaq stated on his podcast that the reason it's down is because everyone is running the same plays,
O'Neal then mentioned Curry specifically.
"Golden State's 3-point shooting strategy was fine in the past, but not every team can do it. I find it boring when everyone follows the same strategy. That's what Steph Curry and others did, and it messed it up," O'Neal stated.
"Since its inception, the game has been perfect, but this new era of humans has messed it up. The Golden State Warriors then came in and altered it," Shaq stated.
"While everyone desires to be like Steph Curry, not everyone can achieve that level of success. As a result, viewership is declining. However, these individuals must realize that if viewership decreases, so does the revenue."
Ray Allen, second all-time, made 2,973 3-pointers, while Curry could potentially become the first player in NBA history to make 4,000.
Looking at the all-time 3-pointers made list reveals a large number of active players and many who have retired recently. For instance, Buddy Hield, who entered the league in 2016, is currently ranked 20th on the list.
On the opening night of the season, the Boston Celtics set a new NBA record by sinking 29 3-pointers in a single game.
