Shaq proposes unpopular plan to boost WNBA viewership and salaries: 'My solution won't be well-received'
Angel Reese discussed Shaquille O'Neal's basketball-related thoughts with him.
Shaquille O'Neal proposed a new strategy for the WNBA to attract more viewers by modifying certain on-court rules.
On Thursday, O'Neal was a guest on Angel Reese's podcast, "Unapologetically Angel." He proposed a solution to increase player salaries, but immediately qualified it by saying, "Nobody is going to like my solution."
"The Los Angeles Lakers legend explained why he came up with his solution first. In women's beach volleyball, the net is 10 feet, but for women it's slightly lower. He clarified that he was not suggesting lowering it to 9.5 feet, but to 9.9 feet."
The NBA and WNBA differ significantly in the amount of dunking, but notable players such as Lisa Leslie, Candace Parker, Brittney Griner, and Jonquel Jones have all dunked in a WNBA game.
We have shooters, handles, and talkers. We also have brawls. The only thing missing is a dunk.
"Hey, I appreciate your growing interest in fashion. I'm also really enjoying watching a girl dunk on the rim all day."
Reese countered, asserting that women dunking wouldn't significantly impact the game and she disliked when men made that claim.
Caitlin Clark's ability to shoot 3-pointers from the logo at will is a unique feature that will attract viewers to watch her.
""I believe that people will always disrespect women and not give us the same value as men, so I don't think it's good enough," Reese stated."
