Report: Rams' players, families, and pets evacuated from wildfires by Cardinals' team planes
Arizona will host the NFL's wild-card game on Monday.
The Cardinals are reportedly on a mission to save their division rivals from the wildfires in California.
According to ESPN, the franchise is sending two of its team planes to Los Angeles to evacuate the LA Rams players, their families, team staffers, and pets and fly them to Arizona.
Six dogs and two cats will join the human passengers.
The Cardinals are providing their home field, State Farm Stadium, and their training complex in Tempe for the Rams' playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings as fires continue to affect Southern California.
The Rams were contemplating staying an additional night, but Tony Pastoors, the Rams' VP of football & business administration, stated "hope is not a strategy," as per the team.
The NFL announced Thursday that the game will be moved to Arizona.
In the Los Angeles area, communities have been severely affected by several wildfires, including the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, during a Santa Ana wind event. These fires have burned over 30,000 acres and have resulted in at least 130,000 people being placed under evacuation orders.
Over 1,000 buildings have been destroyed and at least five people have been killed in the fires.
The NFL announced that the Rams-Vikings game was rescheduled "for the sake of public safety." The decision was made in collaboration with public officials, the teams involved, and the NFL Players Association.
The game kicks off at 8 p.m. ET Monday.
The Chargers, who share SoFi Stadium and head to Houston for a wild-card game Saturday, limited players’ time outside during practice due to poor air quality.
In 2020, the 49ers played three "home" games at State Farm Stadium, while the Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers played there in 2003 due to wildfires in San Diego.
