Report: Jets seek out a familiar face for new head coach.
For six seasons, Rex Ryan served as the coach of the Jets, achieving a record of 46 wins and 50 losses with the team.
In order to move forward with the New York Jets, Rex Ryan is hoping to go back to his previous coaching experience.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Networks, Ryan will interview with the Jets on Tuesday.
Ryan, 62, coached the Jets for six seasons from 2009-2014 and led them to back-to-back AFC Championship games, with a record of 46-50 with the team.
After being fired as head coach in October, Ryan has expressed his desire to coach the Jets again.
Ryan stated on "Pardon My Take" in November that he had informed everyone of his interest in the job, despite having a great gig.
Ryan has been an analyst for ESPN since April 2017, but he still yearns to coach in the NFL again, specifically in East Rutherford, NJ.
Ryan stated that he believes he has some unfinished business with a specific franchise, which is particularly close to him because his father, Buddy Ryan, played there for a long time and won a Super Bowl. If he thought he could make a difference, he would consider getting back into it, as he believes he could make a significant impact with that team.
Since Ryan led the Jets to consecutive AFC Championship Games in 2009 and 2010, the team hasn't made the playoffs.
In 2014, the Jets dismissed Ryan after the team finished with a record of 4-12. Later, he was hired by the Buffalo Bills.
Ryan spent nearly two seasons with the Bills before being fired after Week 16 in his second season, despite the team finishing with a record of 15-16.
The Jets have already interviewed Ron Rivera and Mike Vrabel for the head coach position.
The Miami Dolphins, fighting for a playoff berth, will face the Jets, who are currently 4-12, in their final game at home.
