Despite finishing 3-14 this season, the New York Giants surprised many by keeping general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll for another term.

According to a report from ESPN, it was reported that multiple Giants players were "surprised" about the team retaining Daboll.

Some players were "surprised" about Daboll coming out, but others said they were fine with it because Daboll is a player-friendly coach.

According to the report, the Giants head coach is open to feedback and has a schedule that "hardly wears them down," as stated by the players.

The report stated that while the players appreciate Daboll as a person, they believe his program may not be "destined for success."

Daboll's first season as a coach was successful, with a record of 9-7-1, a playoff win over the Minnesota Vikings, and being named Coach of the Year.

Since then, it has been all downhill.

In 2023, the Giants suffered a regression, finishing with a record of 6-11. This performance led many to believe that the 2024 season would be a crucial one for both the coach and general manager.

Instead of celebrating their 100th season, the franchise went in the opposite direction, resulting in a disappointing 3-14 record.

The season featured fans displaying banners criticizing ownership, removing starting quarterback Daniel Jones from the lineup, and cutting him shortly thereafter.

Schoen and Daboll will have another opportunity to fix the situation, despite everything.

The report stated that a major problem this season was the absence of effective communication between coaches and players.

Some players expressed frustration about feeling misled and abandoned on important issues, such as changes in their roles or declining snaps, without adequate explanation.

The largest challenge for Schoen and Daboll in the upcoming season is resolving the quarterback position.

The NFL Draft's third pick, the team, may miss out on choosing this year's top two quarterbacks, Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward, as the Titans and Browns have the first and second selections, respectively.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the Giants' quarterback position for the upcoming season, both Daboll and Schoen will face significant pressure to succeed and meet the expectations of a demanding fanbase and impatient ownership.
