Report: Ex-Jets head coach Robert Saleh being considered by Cowboys after parting ways with Mike McCarthy.
Saleh was let go after 5 games with a 2-3 record.
The New York Jets' former head coach, Robert Saleh, is reportedly being eyed by the Dallas Cowboys, who let go of their own coach just five games into the season.
The Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy mutually agreed to part ways on Monday, despite his contract with the team expiring just last week. The decision not to renew McCarthy's contract came as a surprise to some after he reportedly turned down the Chicago Bears' request to interview him following the season.
Despite a 7-10 record this season, McCarthy led the Cowboys to the playoffs with a 12-5 record in three straight seasons in Dallas.
Still, Jones chose to go in a different direction.
That direction appears to be in favor of ex-Jets head coach Robert Saleh.
According to the NFL Network, the team's first "known request" is to interview Saleh.
The San Francisco 49ers' former defensive coordinator, Saleh, is the favorite to fill the vacancy with the Jacksonville Jaguars and has also scheduled an interview with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Despite replacing Saleh with interim head coach and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, the Jets' struggles continued and they missed out on the playoffs again.
Saleh's record with two different quarterbacks, first-round pick Zach Wilson and four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers, was 20-36.
The Cowboys have also considered former players Deion Sanders and Jason Witten for the position of head coach.
