Report: Cowboys' Dak Prescott planning season-ending surgery.
A specialist will provide Prescott with an additional opinion.
The worst-case scenario has come to fruition for Dak Prescott.
It is reported that the Dallas Cowboys quarterback intends to undergo season-ending surgery for the hamstring he sustained on Sunday.
After Stephen, the team owner's son, revealed that the team was planning to put Prescott on injured reserve, it became clear why Jerry Jones was hoping Prescott could avoid surgery.
Before making the decision, Prescott will seek the opinion of another specialist, but all indications suggest that he will undergo surgery, which usually entails a four-month recuperation period.
Prescott suffered a partial hamstring tear while playing football. He grimaced in pain after throwing a pass to Jalen Brooks. After the game, he described his experience.
"Prescott stated that he felt something when he was getting up from the run, but he couldn't say for sure what it was. He believed it might have been something related to the tackle. However, when he was standing up, he felt something more clearly, although he didn't think it was significant. He explained that it's common to feel different things during a physical game, and they often fade away."
In 2022, Prescott suffered an ankle injury and underwent surgery on his thumb. If he decides to retire after the 2024 season, he will have completed 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions with a 64.7% completion percentage.
In the upcoming game against the Eagles, Trey Lance, the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is expected to see some action.
Hours before the Cowboys' season opener against the Browns, it was announced that Prescott had agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract extension.
In 2023, he became the highest-paid player in NFL history after throwing for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns. However, this season, he has appeared to regress.
This season, the Cowboys have faced significant injuries, including Micah Parsons' absence in four games. The absence of a running game has increased the pressure on Prescott.
The Cowboys, who had gone 12-5 in three consecutive seasons, were upset at home by the Green Bay Packers in the NFC as the No. 2 seed.
Despite winning two consecutive games against the Giants and Steelers, the Cowboys have lost three games in a row. Now, with a record of 3-5, their schedule is becoming increasingly challenging. The Cowboys will face their NFC East rivals, the Eagles, at home on Sunday for a crucial showdown.
