Report: Bengals receiver's absence from season finale was due to alleged assault.
A female fan was allegedly struck by Jermaine Burton while rushing the field during his time in college.
Over the weekend, Jermaine Burton did not travel with the Cincinnati Bengals, and it seems there is now a cause for this.
The Cincinnati Enquirer requested local police records following the coaching staff's decision not to allow Burton to play in Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Two reports and a 911 call recording were produced as a result of the request, which was made by a woman who alleged that Burton assaulted her on Dec. 30, three days prior to the game.
According to The Enquirer, the two were seen together and had a disagreement. It was later claimed that Burton pursued the woman to her home, strangled her, took her phone, and threatened suicide while brandishing a knife to his throat.
"The woman in the 911 call claimed that Jermaine Burton on the Bengals had broken into her house and was abusive. She stated that he had also broken her phone and did things that she did not tolerate."
The woman informed police that Burton broke into her house, hit her, and then left.
The Bengals have acknowledged information about Jermaine Burton and will continue to assess the situation as more details become available. They will not provide any further comment at this time.
In 2022, while playing for Alabama, Burton was accused of hitting a female Tennessee fan who had rushed onto the field after the Volunteers defeated the Crimson Tide.
Despite concerns about his character, head coach Zac Taylor felt "really comfortable" about selecting Burton in the third round as an eventual replacement for Tee Higgins after the Bengals drafted him.
Despite appearing in 14 games, Burton was rarely on the field and never took half of the offensive snaps in any contest. He was targeted just 14 times and made four receptions for 107 yards on the season.
