Over 50,000 elementary school students received Caitlin Clark books.
One of the biggest stars globally is Caitlin Clark.
Multiple reports indicate that a statewide initiative in Iowa has distributed paperback children's books about women's basketball star Caitlin Clark to over 40,000 2nd graders in public schools.
At 22 years old, Clark, an Iowa native, has emerged as one of the world's leading figures in women's sports, becoming a face of the WNBA after a highly publicized college career.
Her home state's public schools are considering her as an elementary student role model for a statewide book giveaway.
Books were distributed in Iowa and the Greater Indianapolis Area, totaling 50,000.
"Just Like Caitlin" is a book written by Ali Obermeier, which utilizes Clark's image to convey a narrative through the perspective of a grandfather and his basketball-playing granddaughter.
The book's website describes how teaching children the value of hard work and dreaming big, as well as handling setbacks, from a young age will inspire them to follow in the footsteps of successful individuals like Caitlin, who is featured in the book "Just Like Caitlin."
This season, Clark set new WNBA records for single-season assists and rookie scoring, and led the Indiana Fever back to the playoffs after an eight-year absence. Furthermore, she was the most-watched player in women's basketball, with 15 of the most-watched games featuring her.
Since the league's inception in 1997, the highest viewership was recorded during the playoffs, which experienced a more than 140% increase before the WNBA Finals began.
Clark played a significant role in the explosion of popularity of the league. One of her playoff games attracted 2.5 million viewers alone. Additionally, Clark helped the league break the single-game attendance record and challenge NFL games for viewers on multiple occasions.
Recently, Clark was featured on the cover of Time magazine's Inspiring Women special edition alongside Taylor Swift. The issue highlighted eight women in leadership positions, including athletes Serena Williams and Megan Rapinoe. Clark and Swift were the only two figures on the top row, and Clark was the highest-placed athlete among the veteran sports icons.
