Notre Dame will face Ohio State without their TikTok star player in the national championship game.
The National title will be contested between Ohio State and Notre Dame on January 20th.
Ohio State has looked dominant throughout the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff.
Although the Buckeyes knocked out the top-seeded Oregon Ducks in the quarterfinals and defeated the Texas Longhorns in the semifinal, one member of the team, who gained fame through social media, will not attend the championship game in Atlanta.
Ohio State Sports Information Director Jerry Emig confirmed to The Lantern that Caden Davis, a former walk-on, has been dismissed from the team.
Despite being a sophomore defensive end at Ohio State, he never made a tackle during his short tenure. Davis has accumulated a substantial following on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, with hundreds of thousands of followers.
Davis' dismissal from the university was not explained by officials at first.
Davis' online content often included behind-the-scenes footage of the Ohio State football team and athletic facilities, as well as documenting his life as a student on the Columbus, Ohio, campus.
At least one of Davis' social media bios as of Wednesday read "Ohio State football #61," with other accounts referencing the football program.
In a since-deleted Instagram post, Davis claimed he was traveling to the Dallas area with the Buckeyes for the semifinal matchup with Texas in the Cotton Bowl. However, it was later discovered that the photos Davis shared were from the previous season's Cotton Bowl game, in which Missouri defeated Ohio State.
In 2014, Ohio State won its first College Football Playoff Championship and hoisted the national title trophy.
Notre Dame advanced to the national title game by defeating Georgia and Penn State in the quarterfinals and semifinal, respectively. The championship game will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on January 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
