NFL romances and growing families were the focus of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift in 2021.
While some NFL stars' wives announced pregnancies, others accepted marriage proposals.
In 2018, Tom Brady won his final Super Bowl with the New England Patriots, but he left the franchise after the 2019 season, marking the end of the Patriots' dynasty.
The Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers, marking the start of what many believe is the NFL's current dynasty. Tight end Travis Kelce had a standout performance in the game, catching all six passes thrown to him by Patrick Mahomes and finishing with 43 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Despite his successful football career, Kelce has been the center of attention for his personal life, especially his relationship with Taylor Swift. Swift's "Eras Tour" made a two-night stop at the Chiefs home stadium in July 2023.
In a later episode of "New Heights," Travis Kelce revealed his unsuccessful attempt to give Taylor Swift his phone number through a friendship bracelet. This incident sparked speculation about Swift's relationship with the Chiefs tight end, with both Travis and Jason Kelce being asked about it. Despite avoiding going into detail or confirming anything, Swift's attendance at Chiefs games became a significant point of focus.
Since last summer, Swift and Kelce have been photographed numerous times and she made appearances at a few Chiefs games during the 2024 season. The viral moment between the pair on the field after the Chiefs won their third Super Bowl in five seasons in Feb. 2024 was an affectionate one.
After the Chiefs' Super Bowl LVIII win, Kelce revealed the astonishing amount he spent on Swift and his loved ones for the luxury suite during the game.
In a clip from Netflix's "Receiver," Kelce and 49ers star George Kittle discuss the high cost of luxury suites at Allegiant Stadium. Kittle mentions that he cannot afford to host his family in one of the suites, to which Kelce jokingly replies, "Because they're f------ three million dollars?"
In 2024, Swift and Kelce's relationship was closely watched by football fans, but they were not the only football couple who made headlines last year.
Bills star Josh Allen's romance with actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld
Despite having only one game left on the 2024 regular-season schedule, this season has been arguably the best of star quarterback Josh Allen's career.
While Allen has excelled on the field with 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions in 16 games, his personal life has been the focus of media attention in recent months.
In spring 2023, rumors circulated that Allen was dating singer and actress Hailee Steinfeld. However, it wasn't until July 2024 that the pair officially confirmed their romance.
On July 23, the two-time Pro Bowler posted a series of 10 photos on Instagram, captioned "Onward," and Steinfeld was featured in a few of them.
Larry Domasin, a great-uncle of Steinfeld, is an actor, and she developed an interest in acting at an early age.
Steinfeld gained recognition for her work in the 2009 short film "She's a Fox," which was followed by her feature film debut and breakout role in "True Grit" in 2010. The Pitch Perfect film series further helped her gain more recognition.
In "Pitch Perfect 2," Steinfeld sang "Flashlight," which resulted in her getting a record deal.
Allen responds to questions about his relationship
Despite posting photos of him with Steinfeld on social media, the NFL quarterback has remained silent about their relationship.
In August, on "Up & Adams," Allen was questioned about the Instagram post with Steinfeld. Kay Adams joked, "Looks like Mr. Hard Launch."
With Allen responding by simply saying, "We love love."
Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo Bills tight end, shared his thoughts on Hailee's awesomeness.
The happy couple announce their engagement
In a recent Instagram post, Allen and Steinfeld revealed their engagement. The photo showed Allen on one knee with a ring box in his hand, surrounded by flowers and candles on a cliff side next to an ocean vista. The caption read "11•22•24."
In the latest edition of Steinfeld's "Beau Society" newsletter, the singer announced her engagement to Mr. Josh Allen through a "mini fiancé Q&A."
One of the questions posed to the couple was to recount "the most amusing/bizarre incident that transpired on the day [they] got engaged."
"We were getting ready for brunch when you jumped on the bed and said, 'Can we get married already?!'. Allen responded with, 'What are you waiting for?!' I replied, 'Just give me a little more time.' Little did you know I was about to propose to you."
The Bills quarterback credits his fiancée for his strong on-field performance
In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Allen commended Steinfeld for his role in Allen's success on the football field.
"The quarterback, who is 28 years old, stated that she has played a significant role in his success. "She's been a huge part of my journey," he said. "She's always there to lift me up and encourage me. When I come home, she's my biggest fan and my biggest supporter.""
Trevor Lawrence and wife Marissa prepare to welcome first baby
While Trevor Lawrence has not experienced the same level of on-field success as Allen this season, he has still had some personal victories.
In June 2024, the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback and his wife, Marissa Lawrence, announced that they are expecting their first child.
Trevor, the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and Marissa first met while they were high school students in Georgia. Trevor went on to play college football at Clemson, where he won a College Football Playoff National Championship. In 2020, Trevor proposed to Marissa and the couple tied the knot the following year.
Lawrence's 2024 campaign has been hindered by poor performance and injuries. In December, Jaguars coach Doug Pederson announced that the star quarterback underwent surgery to fix an AC joint sprain. As a result, Lawrence will end the 2024 season on injured reserve.
Patrick Mahomes, wife Brittany expecting their third child together
In Feb. 2024, Patrick Mahomes, an NFL superstar, lifted his third Vince Lombardi Trophy as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
The 29-year-old quarterback has won the Super Bowl MVP award three times in his career, and the saying "good things come in threes" applies to his personal life as well.
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes are expecting their fourth child. The couple announced Patrick's third pregnancy in July 2024. They already have a three-year-old daughter, Sterling Skye, and a two-year-old son, Patrick "Bronze" Lavon Mahomes III.
"Brittany and Patrick Mahomes are expecting their third child."
The Mahomes family reveals their baby's gender
The couple's Instagram post on July 19, with the help of Sterling Skye, disclosed the gender of their third child. The post featured Sterling Skye playing a game of Tic-Tac-Toe and revealing three pink Xs in a row, followed by pink smoke and confetti confirming that the Mahomes family would soon be welcoming another baby girl.
