Mike Tyson claims that a 'psychedelic breakthrough' transformed his perspective on life and motivated him to resume boxing.
On Friday, Tyson will make his return to the ring for a sanctioned fight against Jake Paul.
Is Mike Tyson's fight against Jake Paul legitimate, given that he hasn't competed in a sanctioned bout since June 2005 and his age of 58?
As for Tyson, his answer was simple.
"Tyson admitted during a recent interview that his desire for boxing was completely extinguished when he was discussing Kevin McBride. He revealed that he didn't want to box, he was using drugs, drinking excessively, and living a promiscuous lifestyle."
"I had experienced a psychedelic breakthrough when I used the toad (venom) I was telling you about earlier, and it completely changed my perspective on life. I just said I wanted to fight again."
During the toad's defense mechanism, it secretes venom that contains 5-MeO-DMT, a psychoactive compound.
In his final legal fight, Tyson was defeated in six rounds by McBride through technical knockout. Despite leading on two of the three scorecards at the time of the stoppage, Tyson chose to quit before the seventh round.
Even after losing to McBride 19 years ago, Tyson is still surprised to be back in the ring again.
"I'm boxing eight rounds every day, and I'm ready. I fooled myself, I can't believe I'm at this stage of my life where I'm ready to go in there and fight," Tyson said.
Jim Gray inquired about the return of "Iron Mike Tyson" for the fight, referring to the version of Tyson who is an "a------," a "legitimate p----" who desires to "beat the hell out of everybody," regardless of their "walk of life."
Tyson believes he doesn't require "Iron Mike Tyson" for this fight.
"At this stage of my life, I don't need Iron Mike Tyson to kick this guy's a--. There is no need for him in my life anymore, not even for combat."
Tyson has a 50-6 record, with 44 KOs, while Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, has a 10-1 record with 7 KOs.
Tyson (5-foot-10) is shorter than Paul (6-foot-1) and has less reach, with 71 inches compared to Paul's 76 inches.
The eagerly awaited bout will occur at AT&T Stadium on Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET, only on Netflix.
