Miami's goal posts are toppled by Georgia Tech in an ACC thriller, leaving fans stunned.
The game began with the Hurricanes having a flawless 9-0 record.
Despite being the home team, Georgia Tech faced Miami Hurricanes as underdogs in their annual homecoming game this week.
Despite Georgia Tech quarterbacks Haynes King and Aaron Philo having a combined total of only 99 passing yards, the Yellow Jackets' impressive running game helped them secure a 28-23 victory, which was a significant boost for Saturday's homecoming celebrations. King ran for 93 yards, including a touchdown, while also throwing a score.
After the game ended, a mob of fans and students rushed onto the field at Bobby Dodd Stadium, causing both field goal posts to fall.
The Hurricanes, who had an unblemished record, lost and dropped to 9-1. However, their win over a top-five team secured the Yellow Jackets their first win in 15 years.
Georgia Tech defeated Cam Ward, who had 347 passing yards and three touchdown passes, and Miami failed to start the season 10-0 for the first time since 2017. As a result, Georgia Tech became bowl-eligible and ended a two-game losing streak.
The dual-threat quarterback, King, was withheld from the Yellow Jackets' recent games due to a right shoulder injury, which required recovery time.
Miami's unblemished record through its first nine games featured three second-half comebacks. Miami emerged victorious over Duke 53-31 last week, despite the Blue Devils leading 28-17 in the third quarter. Against Georgia Tech, Miami's only advantage was a 10-7 lead in the first half, but they trailed the rest of the way after the Yellow Jackets took a 14-10 lead in the second quarter.
Elijah Arroyo received a record-setting 74-yard scoring pass from Ward, breaking Steve Walsh's school record of 29 touchdown passes in 1988.
Jaden Harris' big hit on the Yellow Jackets' next possession caused Haynes to leave the game and not return.
Miami's loss will likely cause the Hurricanes to fall out of the top-25 and College Football Playoff rankings, while also ending their first-place tie with SMU in the ACC standings.
Miami will host Wake Forest in South Florida in two weeks, while Georgia Tech will have a bye week before returning to action against North Carolina State on Thursday, Nov. 21.
