Megan Rapinoe expresses concern for the transgender community under another Trump presidency.
Rapinoe stated that we should not be ignorant about the fact that America was founded on slavery and inequality.
In her recent podcast episode, Megan Rapinoe expressed disappointment over Vice President Kamala Harris' loss in the presidential election and voiced concerns about the transgender community's safety under another Trump presidency.
On Wednesday's episode of "A Touch More," Rapinoe and four-time WNBA champion Sue Bird shared their views on the election and how they have been coping with Harris' defeat.
Rapinoe began by expressing her feelings of being overwhelmed by the reality of a Trump presidency, which she has experienced before, and the uncertainty of what could happen any day.
Rapinoe, after retiring from professional soccer following the 2023 NWSL season, stated that her main concern is with those around her, particularly the trans community.
"I believe that fear will not affect me personally, as we live in progressive places and are privileged in our position in the world. However, I am concerned about the impact on others, particularly my trans friends, acquaintances, and children. The potential for mass deportations and the resulting chaos is overwhelming."
If the campaign promises of President-elect Donald Trump are fulfilled, Rapinoe believes it will be a challenging four years.
Rapinoe stated that she was taken aback by the fact that Trump's "hateful communication" struck a chord with numerous Americans.
"The sight of a hateful message gaining widespread support among the electorate is difficult to bear. We are aware of this, but let's not be naive. America was founded on slavery and inequality."
Looking ahead, she said the Democratic Party will need to re-evaluate.
It is clear that the Democratic Party made mistakes, and we must examine them truthfully in the upcoming months, weeks, and years to ensure that our message and party resonate with more people than the opposing party, which failed to achieve this goal this time.
