Matthew Stafford uncertain about his NFL future following Rams' playoff elimination
The Eagles defeated the Rams 28-22.
If Matthew Stafford's final game in the NFL was on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs, then he had a successful career as the Los Angeles Rams quarterback.
Stafford was 26-of-44 with 324 passing yards and two touchdown passes. The Eagles forced the Rams to fumble on back-to-back drives, with Kyren Williams and Stafford both losing possession. The turnovers led to two Philadelphia field goals, and Los Angeles lost the game, 28-22.
The 36-year-old Super Bowl champion and two-time Pro Bowler, who will turn 37 on Feb. 7, was asked about his NFL future after the game. He replied that he would need to "think about it" before making a decision.
He said via ESPN, "But I feel like I was playing some pretty good ball," and added, "Sure feels like" he has some good football left in him.
Sean McVay, the Rams head coach, declined to discuss anything other than the playoff defeat.
"He stated that he was not interested in discussing next year's topics and was only appreciative of the current team."
The Eagles' offense was halted by the Rams' defense on Philadelphia's next possession after Stafford's 10-play, 70-yard drive resulted in a touchdown pass to Colby Parkinson, giving Los Angeles a chance to tie the game.
Puka Nacua received an incomplete pass from Stafford, resulting in a turnover on downs at the Eagles’ 22-yard line.
During the 2021 season, the veteran quarterback led the Rams to a Super Bowl title over the Cincinnati Bengals, with 3,762 passing yards and 20 touchdown passes.
