Louis Vuitton store shoplifting incident: LiAngelo Ball remembers his arrest in China.
At the time, President Trump stated that he requested assistance from Xi to resolve the issue.
In 2017, LiAngelo Ball, the sibling of NBA stars Lonzo and LaMelo Ball, narrated the incident when he and two other UCLA players were detained in China for allegedly stealing designer sunglasses.
While on a trip as a member of the UCLA men's basketball team, Ball, 26, visited a Louis Vuitton store near the team's hotel in Hangzhou and bought sunglasses.
During a recent episode of "Unapologetically Angel" with Angel Reese, Ball reflected on the incident.
Ball stated, "I knew it was wrong. I was 18, in the wrong spot, at the wrong time, making quick decisions while doing dumb things. Now, everyone wants me to provide a detailed explanation. However, I don't know how to explain it."
"I knew what I did was wrong, but I did it anyway. It's been seven to eight years since then, and I haven't been in trouble since."
Ball said he knew right away he had made a mistake.
I couldn't think of anything past 'like, I knew s--- was going to go south.' I didn't know, right when I left the store, I was like, 'Damn.' I told my teammates, 'Like, yeah, we done,' Ball said.
"I knew that was wrong, bro."
At the time, Planet Chronicle reported that President Trump requested assistance from Xi Jinping, president of the People's Republic of China, to resolve the issue involving Ball and his teammates, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill.
I thank President Xi Jinping of China for making the three UCLA basketball players' trip to China possible. Please give him a big thank you.
In 2017, Trump wrote on social media, "Your release is possible! But be careful, there are many pitfalls on the long and winding road of life!"
In 2018, Ball opted to play in the Lithuanian Basketball League rather than being drafted by the NBA after completing his career at UCLA.
Lavar Ball founded the Junior Basketball Association, and his son played for the Los Angeles Ballers in that league.
In 2021-2023, Ball spent time in the NBA G-League before signing an Exhibit 10 contract with the Detroit Pistons in 2020, but was later waived.
Ball was signed by the Charlotte Hornets in 2021 and 2022, but he was waived shortly after each signing. As a result, he has not played in an NBA regular-season game.
The Charlotte Hornets and the Chicago Bulls both have Ball brothers playing for them, specifically LaMelo and Lonzo, respectively.
