Lions-Commanders playoff game: Tom Brady receives praise for crucial observation.
Brady is embarking on his first season in the FOX booth.
On Saturday, Tom Brady was commended for his decision during a pivotal moment in the Washington Commanders' NFC divisional round win over the Detroit Lions.
With a three-point lead and less than 14:30 remaining, the Commanders opted to attempt a touchdown on 4th-and-2 from the Lions' 5-yard line. If the Lions stopped them, the Commanders would have regained possession with enough time to either tie the game or take the lead.
As the Commanders broke their huddle, Brady observed that something was amiss with the Lions' defense.
""I need a timeout, 12 players on the field, timeout!" exclaimed Brady."
The Lions were penalized for having 12 men on the field, which gave the Commanders a new set of downs. Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. found the end zone two plays later and put Washington up 38-28. The Commanders won the game 45-28.
Brady, who made his first NFC divisional round appearance, was praised for highlighting the Lions' illegal defense.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell lamented the loss.
"We didn't complement each other," he stated. "We didn't get a stop when we needed one, and when we got a stop, we turned the ball over. With five turnovers – even if one was at the end and it was really four, that's too much."
The former NFL player, who played for the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is currently in his first full season as a broadcaster for FOX. He will be joining Kevin Burkhardt to call Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans next month.
