LaVar Ball attributes his sons' injuries to inadequate training and worn-out footwear.
Lonzo hasn't played in 2 seasons, while LaMelo was shut down for the season.
In a recent interview, LaVar Ball passionately spoke out in defense of his sons, Lonzo and LaMelo, whose seasons were cut short due to injuries.
Lonzo Ball was traded from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Chicago Bulls before the start of the 2021-22 season. Despite playing 35 games for the Bulls, knee injuries forced him to miss the entirety of last season and this season. He hasn't appeared on the floor since Jan. 14, 2022.
This season, LaMelo Ball played only 22 games for the Charlotte Hornets and hadn't played since January 27. Last week, the Hornets decided to shut him down for the rest of the season. The team is currently 18-58.
LaVar Ball attributed his sons' injuries to their workout routines and footwear, as he discussed with CBS Sports.
LaVar Ball stated, "They claim that I overworked the boys, which is why they are in pain. However, the real reason they are hurting is because they strayed from me and began doing these ineffective workouts. If you continue to run hills and maintain a strong training regimen, you will preserve your power and strength. But when you switch to lighter, less challenging exercises, you are bound to break down."
"Have they been trained enough? No, no, no. Because you condition your body for running and jumping. You need to condition your legs. That's why I always have my boys in the hills and running hard in the hills. This will make you run like a deer when you get on the court, so you won't get hurt. A lot of things have to do with the raggedy shoes that Melo is wearing. The shoes are not made the right way for him. That's why he keeps tweaking his ankle every time."
Lonzo Ball has a player option with the Bulls for the 2024-25 season worth $21.3 million.
Last season, LaMelo Ball was in the final year of his rookie contract. Now, he has signed a five-year contract extension that starts next season.
