Kansas upset by Creighton basketball team, coach makes audacious statement.
In three years, Kansas had not lost a regular season game to an unranked, nonconference team.
The Creighton basketball teams have recorded their signature win of 2024.
The No. 1 ranked Kansas Jayhawks were knocked off by the Bluejays in what is arguably the biggest upset of the season. At one point, Creighton led by 17 before winning the game 76-63.
"Evidently, this is the building where No. 1 teams go to die," Creighton head coach Greg McDermott boldly claimed after the game, as fans stormed the court.
Last season, Creighton achieved a similar feat to McDermott's by upsetting the top-ranked UConn Huskies on their home court in Omaha.
The Bluejays 85-66 victory in February also sparked a court-storming moment.
Under McDermott, Creighton has advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament nine times.
Since McDermott became the head coach in 2010, the Bluejays have won 15 times against top-10 opponents, including their recent victory over Kansas.
On Dec. 7 at 4:00 p.m. ET, Creighton will face UNLV in Omaha, while Kansas will journey to Missouri to play the Tigers on Dec. 8.
