JJ McCarthy, a rookie on the Vikings team, posted a mysterious message on social media after their playoff loss.
McCarthy's rookie season was cut short due to surgery.
On Monday night, the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round, and their first round pick J.J. McCarthy shared a mysterious message on social media.
The post comes amid speculation about Sam Darnold’s future in Minnesota.
With Darnold as their quarterback, the Vikings had a successful regular season, winning 14 out of 17 games.
But the playoffs were different.
In Week 18, the Vikings, who were fighting for the top seed in the NFC, were defeated by the Detroit Lions. Darnold, the former first round draft pick, completed only 19 of 41 passes for 166 yards and no touchdowns. He was also sacked twice. On Monday night, Darnold showed no signs of improvement.
He lost 27-9, going 25 out of 39 for 245 yards, including a touchdown and an interception. He was also sacked nine times.
Darnold stated after the game that it was evident he did not perform well enough in the previous weeks.
The backup quarterback J.J. McCarthy made more interesting comments than Darnold's postgame admission.
The former Michigan quarterback, who won a national championship and was drafted by the Vikings with the No. 10 overall pick, posted a cryptic message on X after Minnesota's loss.
"Amor fati," he wrote.
The concept of "fatum amor," or "love of fate," describes an individual's outlook on life, encompassing both positive and negative experiences.
The viral post on social media could have multiple interpretations for McCarthy.
Darnold's back-to-back losses in the final two games of the season may lead to his departure from the Vikings, allowing the team to start anew with a new starter in 2025, as the rookie season of the previous player was cut short due to injury.
