Jerry Jones announces that Dak Prescott has decided to undergo season-ending surgery to treat his injured hamstring.
On November 3, Prescott sustained an injury during a game against the Falcons.
Recently, Jerry Jones, the owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, expressed his hope that quarterback Dak Prescott would avoid surgery to fix his injured hamstring and not miss the entire season.
Jones said last week that he didn't want surgery and preferred to be on the field, but he ultimately decided to undergo surgery to fix his torn hamstring.
On Wednesday in New York, Prescott will undergo the procedure, as confirmed by Jones.
"Jones stated on his radio show that his prognosis is excellent, but it implies that he will not be available for the remainder of the year."
Over a week after Prescott exited a game against the Atlanta Falcons in the third quarter, it was determined that he had sustained an injury during a 5-yard scramble, although he did not immediately seek medical attention on the Dallas sideline.
After the game, Prescott detailed what he felt at the time as cameras showed him grimacing while throwing a pass to Jalen Brooks.
""I felt something when I was getting up from the run, but I couldn't say for sure what it was. It might have been something on the tackle. I didn't think it was much, but it was a physical game and I often felt different things that would go away," Prescott said at the time."
The Cowboys were aware that they would be without last season's NFL MVP runner-up for at least a month and had accepted the situation after Prescott consulted with another specialist.
The recovery time for the injury is estimated to be around three months, which is the same duration as the time it took for former Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith to return to play after a similar injury in training camp two years ago.
Prescott suffered a partial avulsion of his hamstring, which is the second time in five years he has missed more than half a season due to injury. In 2020, he broke an ankle in Week 5, and Dallas finished with a record of 6-10.
The Cowboys enter Monday night's game against the Houston Texans with a 3-6 record. If the team cannot improve its record over its final eight games, it will be the first time since 2020 Dallas has missed out on the playoffs.
Despite having a mediocre year, Prescott suffered an injury. He had thrown for 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions, and his offense was average in the NFL after being one of the best in the playoff years.
Against the Eagles, Cooper Rush replaced Prescott and had the fewest passing yards for a Dallas starter in a game since Matt Cassel had 37 in 2015. Rush will start again Monday night.
