The Chicago White Sox announced the passing of former MLB catcher and manager Jeff Torborg at the age of 83 in Westfield, N.J.
"In 1990, Torborg was awarded the A.L. Manager of the Year for leading the Sox to a 94-68 record, a 25-game improvement from the previous season."
In his 10-year playing career, Torborg hit .214 with 101 RBI and 297 hits in 1,525 plate appearances. Four years after retiring, he began managing the Indians. He served as manager for one full season and two half-seasons before being let go.

In 2001, he served as an interim manager for the Expos, and he was the Marlins' full-time manager in 2002 until he was let go halfway through the 2003 season.
