Jameis Winston of the Browns prays for deliverance from pick-sixes after throwing two in their loss.
On Monday, the Broncos defeated the Browns 41-32.
Jameis Winston, the Cleveland Browns' quarterback, had a performance that was a blend of good and bad in the team's 41-32 loss to the Denver Broncos on Monday night.
In the loss, Winston, 30, set a career-high and Browns franchise record with 497 yards thrown, achieving four touchdowns. However, he also made three interceptions, including two back-breaking pick-sixes.
After the game, Winston reflected on his up and down performance.
"Despite the challenges, this is an opportunity for growth, and I know I can overcome them. I know I'm better than this, and I'm praying for the Lord to deliver me from setbacks. I'm not like this, and I'm just disappointed in my performance. The game was phenomenal, and the offense did great things, but I made a mistake," Winston said postgame.
In the second quarter, with less than two minutes remaining, Winston scored his first pick-six, leaving the Browns struggling to keep up with the Buccaneers' lead of 14-10.
After surveying the field, Winston attempted to check down to his tight end Jordan Akins on first down. However, linebacker Nik Bonitto jumped in front of Akins and intercepted the pass for a 71-yard pick-six.
Just before the first half ended, Winston led the Browns back down the field and connected with tight end David Njoku for his second touchdown of the game on a 4-yard pass. The score cut the Broncos lead to 21-17.
With less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Browns attempted a comeback, but their second pick-six was thwarted by cornerback Ja’Quan McMillan. Winston aimed to target wide receiver Elijah Moore on first down, but the pass was undercut by McMillan.
McMillan fell but recovered and sprinted to the finish line, securing a victory for the Broncos with a final score of 41-32.
Throughout his career, Winston has been known for his aggressive play, with a total of 152 touchdown passes and 106 interceptions. In 2019, he led the NFL in passing yards with 5109, while also throwing 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
In the loss, Winston's 497 yards passing were his fifth game with over 400 yards in a game.
Since replacing the injured Deshaun Watson as the Browns' starter, Winston has completed 61.3% of his passes for 1763 yards, with 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
The Browns lost to the Steelers, dropping their record to 3-9. Winston hopes the lord will prevent him from making more pick-sixes in the next game.
